November is a good month for all the foodies out there. A few events are going on and I better get this published before one of them ends. And yes, it is alright to back away from the kitchen slowly while reading this.
The Latin Festival, La Fiesta, is held annually on Johnston Street ,Fitzroy and is on today and tomorrow, 16 Nov – 17 November from noon until 10:30 in the evening. The Hispanics feistiness and passion are apparent and you can feel the vibe tingling through you as you graze down Johnston Street. Head down before you miss out! What will you be missing out? Food and drinks to choose from and live bands performing and street dancing for those who want to shimmy down the street! Yes! Click here to get more information from Broadsheet Melbourne. Don’t bother with the official site unless you want to check out 2012’s La Fiesta.
Taste of Melbourne started last Thursday in Albert Park and have attracted the big names in the restaurant scene. Personal favourites: Movida, Longrain and Albert Street Food & Wine are there. Northside burger Huxtaburger also has a stall selling their namesake in a mini version at $6. Stalls are set up for food, produce (cherries are quite yum!), drinks including the new Beer Hall with 18 breweries present. Tasmania is also represented with its own pavilion housing Flinders Island Lamb, an Oyster Bar, local whiskey and cheese (line was too long). The currency is done using their own cards that you load up with crowns. 1 Crown = $1. Most affordable is to get the Silver ticket at the gate at $50 that includes a card loaded with 30 crowns. Entry on it’s own is $30 at the door. So get there and graze the wonderful offerings. This year’s Taste of Melbourne ends tomorrow, 17 Nov 2013.
Before Trailer Park says its final farewell (TOMORROW!), it’s best you drop everything and head there. Trailer Park is the stop for most of the food trucks that seem to be taking over the Melbourne food scene…with good reason. Food prepared inside trucks seem to have that je ne sais quoi making everything taste better. You are not confined to a stuffy or loud environment. At Village Melbourne, where the old Belgian Beer Cafe was, take a pick on where you want to sit from benches, to gazebos and the lawn. A full service bar is operational and for this farewell, every single day will feature a few trucks and will not repeat again…EVER. Last day is on Sunday, 17 Nov. Read more and the schedule of the food trucks here.
My younger friends tell me that stir fries and noodles are their “go-to” food groups. I envisioned a carbon wok, fresh ingredients, flash frying. I was wrong. They actually meant 2-minute noodles. Oh well. So here’s something Good Food Month Melbourne has organised. Night Noodle Market. Nine Asian cuisines represented and will be there day in and day out from Monday, 18 Nov until the 30th. So couldn’t be bothered waiting for a table at that restaurant with the no-reservation policy? Or just haven’t had any foresight on planning dinners during this time? Head down to Alexandra Gardens and chow down these tasty treats. Gelato Messina is feeling the Asian vibe churning out coconut, pandan, mango and peanut butter flavours. Here’s the list.
